What is a dog wellness exam and why is it important?

A dog wellness exam is bringing your pet in so that a dog veterinarian here at our office can do a thorough physical exam to make sure that your pet is thriving. This includes assessing their weight, coat, and overall appearance by looking them over from head to tail to make sure there are no abnormalities.

What happens if the veterinarian finds something abnormal during a dog wellness exam?

During your dog wellness exam, if there's anything abnormal, then we are here for you every step of the way. Our doctors will go through a thorough treatment plan and make sure that you understand everything that's happening and also that you're comfortable with the cost of those tests that are associated because we understand vet care can be expensive.

Will my dog need any blood tests or lab work during the exam?

One thing that we always ask during an annual wellness exam for any age of pet is a stool sample. It's recommended to send that out once a year at a minimum. If you have a senior dog and they need a senior wellness exam, then we may also recommend bringing things like urinalysis. We may also need to collect some blood to run some further diagnostics during your visit.

How much does a typical dog wellness exam cost?

A typical dog wellness exam cost can vary drastically based on the age of your pet and what they're due for vaccination-wise. This is something that we discuss with you during every visit, and we make sure that you are comfortable and understand the cost upfront before we do anything for your pet.
