The Cat "Purrito"

Wrap Up Your Cat For Easy Medication Administration

Hi, I'm Haley. I'm a registered veterinary technician here at Green Valley Veterinary Care, and we are going to show you how to wrap up a patient so that you can administer some treatments, clean ears, administer medications, or just do anything at home that you need to do to our feline friends!

This is Ace. He is going to help demonstrate for us today. The method that we recommend is, we like to call it a "purrito." We're going to wrap him up in a towel.

To start, have your towel ready on a flat surface. Set your cat down somewhat in the middle. They don't always cooperate, so be patient. Gently lay your cat down by applying some pressure and stretching their legs out. Keep some pressure on their shoulder blades to prevent them from feeling like they can escape.

The first step is tucking in those little toe beans. Next, do a gentle wrap from one side, hold that down, and then start wrapping up the other side.Even if your cat's tail is flicking, it might still be purring. They can give mixed signals. But now you can do anything from a physical exam in the office to looking at their eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and teeth.

If you need to treat their ears, you can apply a cleanser and put medications in. You can even administer medications orally this way. This is the recommended method if you have to administer medications by yourself. If you have a friend to help, one person can hold the cat comfortably while the other administers medications.

That is the gist of how to burrito a cat so that you can safely administer medications or treatments at home. Thanks for watching!
